Or Juliet? Or whoever might like to be the PTA liaison for the Shakespeare
arts residency at Westland this year???
By way of background, the PTA has funded a weeklong Shakespeare residency
for the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for the past three years. It's in our
budget again for this year, but we need someone to spearhead this effort.
The job entails some work in the fall - largely working out the contract
with the MD Shakespeare Company and working with Westland's English Dept.
Chair Ashton Palmer to set the general parameters of the residency. Over the
winter, the job is more PR - Westland is one of the only schools in the area
(maybe THE only?) that has done a full school residency for three
consecutive years, and we'd like to generate some publicity about that. The
residency itself will take place just after spring break - April 6-16th - or
thereabouts. During that time, it's helpful for the chair to spend some time
at the school observing the performances and the classroom work.
This is a job that can certainly be shared by more than one person. The main
qualification is a passion for theatre and Shakespeare, some organizational
skills (can mostly be done at home, but some time needed at school in the
spring), and an ability to convey how wonderful this program is to the
Westland community, and beyond!
I cannot express how much this residency enhances the educational experience
of every single student at Westland. If you can help make it happen, please
let me know! Thanks very much - alysa emden (PTA President & Maia 7th) (Use the "CONTACT US" link at the top of the page.)
